Catholic Apostolic Congregation (Berlin-Tiergarten)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The church of the Catholic Apostolic congregation West Berlin in the Pohlstraße 81 (formerly Steglitzer Street 55 ) was founded in 1894 in the Gothic Revival style built and on October 3, 1894 inaugurated . It has 450 seats and was under the direction of the "Engel" C. Wagener, Rudolf Gerds, Hermann Baltzer and Oskar H. Quenzel. From 1897 the community was divided into two elders districts with a total of 700 regular visitors. In 1914 the congregation had 1,100 worshipers on Sundays.

Every Sunday at 10 a.m., around 100 people of all ages gather there for prayer, since since the 1970s it has no longer been possible to celebrate church services with the Eucharist in the Catholic-Apostolic congregations due to a lack of priestly offices. The last service took place in the spring of 1959 by the last priest in the GDR , Rolf Meyertöns from Chemnitz . Around 2500 visitors took part in these services, which took place for all seven Berlin parishes. Today the congregation is looked after by three sub-deacons and there are morning prayers and an afternoon prayer twice a week.
