history

The church of the Catholic Apostolic Community in Friedrichstadt was probably built around 1885, with generous financial support from Ernst Hermann Vogel. The building was a one-and-a-half-storey sandstone-brick construction with a plastered facade in the yard of the property. The beam cross window was on the gable facing Froebelstrasse. At the gable facing Wölfnitzstrasse there were two semi-circular corners. Later a semicircular apse was added as a chancel. On the long sides were five elongated arched windows with colored lead glazing. There was space for around 90 believers in the simple, towerless building. The church building had an organ from Jehmlich Orgelbau Dresden . On February 13, 1945, during the first attack, the church was hit and damaged by high explosive bombs. Part of the windows could be recovered between the attacks, as well as goblets and other objects and vessels. The subsequent attack destroyed the building to the ground.

Hellmut Heinrich was the headmaster and priest until it was destroyed in 1945, as was the chapel on Striesener Str. 13, which was also destroyed in 1945 and removed in 1953. Priest Hellmut Heinrich was the father of five children. His son Martin Heinrich, with the stage name Martin Hellberg , became an actor and was an important theater and film director in the GDR. In 1951 the rubble was cleared and removed by 1954.
