The Catholic University of Bukavu is a private university in the southern Kivutian capital of Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of the Congo . It was founded in 1989 by the Roman Catholic Church . Its rector is Joseph Gwamuhanya Birindwa . The university's motto is Super lacus ac montes splendens .
history
It was founded on November 21, 1989 by decree of the Archbishop of Bukavu, Mgr. Aloys Mulindwa Mutabesha MMM . The lectures started a week earlier, on November 15th. On September 11, 1991, the university was granted the status of a higher education institution. In 1992 a medical faculty was opened and an economics faculty, and two years later a law faculty .
structure
Today the Catholic University of Bukavu has five faculties:
- agronomy
- Law
- Economy and business administration
- medicine
- Natural science (business informatics)
Around 1500 students are enrolled at the university. It also runs several research centers, including one for conflict research (Center d'Études et de Gestion des Conflits, CEGEC), part of the Law Faculty, and the Laboratoire d'Economie Appliquée au Développement (LEAD), the is affiliated with the economic faculty.
