Kathy McMillan

Kathy McMillan ( Kathy Laverne McMillan; born November 7, 1957 in Raeford , North Carolina ) is a former American long jumper .

In 1975 she won the bronze medal at the Pan American Games in Mexico City .

With the US record of 6.78 m she qualified for the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , where she won the silver medal with 6.66 m behind Angela Voigt from the GDR (6.72 m) and ahead of Lidija Alfejewa from the Soviet Union (6.60 m) won.

In 1979 she won the Pan American Games in San Juan . The following year, the US Olympic boycott prevented participation in the Olympic Games in Moscow ; instead she won the alternate Liberty Bell Classic.

In 1983 she managed to defend her title at the Pan American Games in Caracas .

In 1976 and 1979 she was US outdoor champion, 1977 and 1979 indoor.
