Katja Just (born in Munich ) is a German writer , bestselling author and mayor of the Hallig Hooge (Hooge voter community).

Life

Just grew up in Ismaning , she knew Hallig Hooge as a child. On the Ockens throws the Hallig, her mother and stepfather bought a 300-year-old thatched-roof house in 1996 , in which they rented two holiday apartments. Just completed an apprenticeship as a clerk and worked in the Lufthansa trainee support department at Munich Airport.

When she was 25 years old, she and her partner at the time planned to start a family on the Hallig. The plans came to nothing, so in October 2000 she moved to the marsh island alone. In 2001, she temporarily returned to the mainland and attended the technical school for housekeeping in rural areas (Landfrauenschule) in Hanerau-Hademarschen , then she took part in a business start-up seminar in Flensburg , which the Chamber of Industry and Commerce organized on weekends. In 2003 she took over the rental of the holiday apartments on the former hayloft in the listed Friesian house "Haus am Landsende" with Pesel and Döns ; the parents moved to Husum .

After she contributed to the book Between Landluft und Sehnsucht , published in 2009, in the chapter Exchange mountain whispers against the sound of the sea , the media became aware of her. She had her first television appearance in 2012 in the SWR talk show Nachtcafé with Wieland Backes on the subject of "Lust for the country - between country air and disappointment", in which she wore the costume of the Hoogerin Magda Boyens, which her granddaughter has made available to her since her death. She is involved in local politics in the local council, initially as a non-party member; in June 2018 she was elected mayor of Hooge.

In 2018 she published Barefoot on the Summer Dike. My Hallig life between ebb and flow . In the book she describes her life on the Hallig and the experiences with the around one hundred residents. The book became a paperback bestseller. The interest of the readers, who also came to Ockenswarft because of the book, led them to publish “News from the Hallig” in 2019 under the title Fresh Brise on the Sommerdeich . The book also became a paperback bestseller.
