Katrin Askan

Katrin Askan (born February 21, 1966 in East Berlin ) is a German writer .

Life

After graduating from high school, Katrin Askan first worked in a hospital and in a bookstore. In 1986 she managed to escape from the eastern part of the city to West Berlin . Long stays in Sweden followed, where she translated for radio, among other things. She later studied philosophy and German at the Free University of Berlin and currently lives as a freelance writer in Cologne . Since 1988 she has published poetry and prose in numerous magazines and anthologies. a. the story The Scorpion in the annual journal for literature and graphics Shellfish .

The personal experience of an escape to the West is processed fictionally in an original way in the novels in A major and Aus dem Schneider . Off the hook in particular received many praise and was seen in many reviews as an important contribution to the genre of the reversible novel .

In 1998 Katrin Askan received the Friedrich-Hölderlin-Prize of the City of Bad Homburg, in 1999 the Rolf-Dieter-Brinkmann-Scholarship of the City of Cologne and in 2001 the 3sat-Prize at the Ingeborg-Bachmann-Competition .
