Kattmanns Camp

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kattmanns Kamp is a forest and moor area in Ostbevern on the border region between Ladbergen and Kattenvenne .

history

Like Kattenvenne, the name comes from Gatt and Kamp ( campus , Latin for "field"). According to a document dated September 2, 1312, the area was established as Mastkamp by the von Langen family. In such an area, pigs were driven to be fattened, especially acorns and beechnuts. Katt-Meskamp - a Mästkamp with Katts, Kattmes or Kattmanns. In 1366 Hermann Lüsten and his sons Gerd and Lüdeke von Langen sold half of Kattmanns Kamp to Johann von Bevern . At the end of the Thirty Years' War the farmers in Ostbevern were illegally driven in. In 1654–1658 the widow of Letmathe zu Langen and Adolf von Nagel zu Loburg and Wilhelm von Schenking, Drosten zu Bevern, quarreled about the border and hunting there. In 1785 Friedrich Clemens von Elverfeldt zu Dahlhausen and Steinhausen bought Kattmanns Kamp in a foreclosure auction from Clemens August von Nagel zu Loburg. In 1803, Nagel filed a lawsuit against the buyer in order to buy back at least half of the pledged Kattmanns Kamp. In 1893 the 324 hectare area was divided up. Felix von Lilien acquired 264 hectares and carried out new plantings. During the First World War, French prisoners of war were employed to drain the moor in Kattmanns Kamp. After the war in the twenties, the moor settlement was built there.
