The Katzenbergtunnel is an in-construction 570 meter long road tunnels the Bundesautobahn 3 between junctions Würzburg - Heidingsfeld and Würzburg / Randersacker . It is part of the six-lane expansion of the motorway between Aschaffenburg and Nuremberg . In the summer of 2014, the construction contract was awarded for 33.7 million euros (including VAT). The tunnel will consist of two tubes. The northern tube was put into operation in February 2018, the southern one will follow in autumn 2021.

The north tube has a clear width of 19 to 22 meters and four lanes, the south tube 17 meters clear width and three lanes. With a clear height of at least 6.2 meters, both tubes also each have a shoulder and emergency walkways one meter wide. Seven escape doors will be arranged in the area of the central wall between the south and north tubes. The tunnel portals and an escape gallery in the middle of the tunnel next to the partially covered operations building serve as exits to the outside. The north tube is to be ventilated with jet fans. The south tube is naturally ventilated by the chimney effect and the directional traffic in the same direction. Furthermore, exhaust gas partition walls with a length of 30 meters are provided in the median at the tunnel portals in order to avoid turbulence in the air flows of the separate tubes.

The structure consists of two-cell reinforced concrete frames and consists of 57 blocks with a block length of 10 meters each. The production takes place in "open construction". After completion, the building will be covered over. The 1.2 meter thick and up to 9 meter high tunnel walls are built on bored piles with a diameter of 1.20 meters. The tunnel ceiling is 1.80 meters thick on the walls and around 1.20 meters in the middle of the field.
