The Katzenstein is a wooded hill east of Blankenstein and west of the Hammertal .
It is part of the Alte Ruhr-Katzenstein nature reserve . At the edge of the forest, outside the nature reserve, is the restaurant "Krans im Katzenstein". A farm road begins at the stone house . In 2016, walkers discovered the skeleton of a moneylender from Velbert who had been missing since 2012 in the forest.
