Cavity classes
The cavity class is a term from dentistry .
To treat a carious tooth, the carious material is removed mechanically ( preparation ). A cavity is created in the tooth, which then has to be filled.
The type of cavity is identified worldwide with the Roman numerals I to V according to the areas of the tooth covered by the defect.
The cavity includes in cavity class ...
- I dimples and fissures in the occlusal surface (posterior teeth occlusal )
- II contact surfaces of the molars (posterior teeth approximal and possibly occlusal )
- III Contact surfaces of incisors and canines, incisal edge not involved
- IV as III, but incisal edge involved;
- V tooth neck surface
- VI Defects in the milk teeth
- (See structure of the tooth )
This classification was proposed in 1889 by the American dentist Greene Vardiman Black .
Based on the cavity class, the dentist can make a rough decision about the most suitable methods for preparing and filling the tooth.
Several other classifications have been proposed to take account of the advancement of dentistry since 1908 .
