History and construction
The KH-4 was a further development of the Bell 47, built under license by Kawasaki since 1952. The most visible difference between the KH-4 and its predecessor was the new, fully enclosed, enlarged cabin with removable side doors and space for three passengers on one Bench behind the pilot's seat offered. The helicopter was equipped with new controls, revised instrumentation and larger tanks.
A total of 211 KH-4s were produced, including four that were converted from existing Bell 47Gs. The majority was bought by civilian operators, some helicopters were also acquired by the Japanese and Thai armed forces.
