The Tekke of Baba Iskender

The Kaymakçı-Tekke , also Tekke of Baba Iskender called, is a dervish - Monastery of the Ottoman period in the quarter Ahmediye in Istanbul district of Üsküdar . It was built by the Janissaries - Agha Mehmet Efendi . Construction began in 1544, and the Tekke for ritual prayer was opened in the same year.

The building was originally built as a mescite , but in 1752 it was converted into a dervish convent by Kaymakçızade Sheikh Haci Mehmet Effendi. Before that, a cemetery and in 1728 the well of Damat Ibrahim Pasha from Nevşehir were added. The monastery, which was restored in 1800 by Safaizade Haci Mehmet Efendi, was abandoned after Turkey was founded and left to its fate. In 1945 parts were dismantled in the middle. The tomb ( Türbe ) of Baba Iskender and the cemetery remained.

The building is located in close proximity to the mosque of Malatyal ı Ismail Agha. Between 2011 and 2013, the Tekke des Baba Iskender was rebuilt by the municipality of Üsküdar according to the original structure. The Tekke is in the middle of the complex. In the cemetery is the grave of the patron saint of the Tekke, Mehmet Efendi.
