No service for Nazis is an initiative of innkeepers from Regensburg who do not tolerate racist and discriminatory statements in their pubs or who do not want to serve Nazis and racists.

purpose

The alliance was founded in August 2010. At that time, over 80 Regensburg restaurateurs signed an appeal, the main content of which is as follows.

We say no to intolerance and racism, which disturb the peaceful coexistence of the different cultures in Regensburg. In order to protect the city and its inhabitants, the tourists, our guests and our staff from these attacks, the following restaurants declare: Nazis and other racists have no business in our rooms. We do not tolerate any racist, discriminatory statements in our restaurant. We're not going to serve these people. "

- Extract from the founding declaration

At the end of 2013, the number of supporters was over 190.

background

At the end of June 2010, five right-wing extremists known to the police beat up a bartender at his workplace in a Regensburg restaurant. The attack is considered a politically motivated act of revenge, as the keeper had intervened a few days earlier when a dark-skinned woman was racially insulted in public by right-wing extremists. On the occasion of the attack on the counter power, an employee of the Bavarian state coordination office against right-wing extremism suggested the establishment of an initiative by innkeepers, whereupon the alliance No service for Nazis was founded by her, the couple of the attacked pub and other private individuals two months later .

Awards

In March 2013, the Wirte Alliance received the Josef Felder Prize from the Bavarian SPD . In April 2013, the initiative received the Luther Prize “The Intrepid Word” .

activities

Among other things, the initiative demanded that the city of Regensburg not provide any communal rooms for the band Frei.Wild . Their music and concerts are the cultural cement for the right-wing extremist scene, which the city should not support.

cleavage

The initiative split when some sought to set up a registered association. A group around the host couple wanted to continue the alliance in its previous form. Another part of the initiative founded the association KEINE BEDIENUNG FÜR NAZIS eV on September 30, 2013, which continues the previous work of the active members and is responsible for the prize money received. According to press reports, long-standing differences in political work led to a split in the alliance. The split also temporarily led to two different representations on the Internet and legal disputes. Issues in dispute between the two camps were, among other things, the existing material resources and the right to name the former website. A lawsuit filed by the landlords for the surrender of the prize money, among other things, was dismissed by the Regional Court of Regensburg in November 2014.

reporting

Reports in the Mittelbayerische Zeitung repeatedly emphasized the host's Jewish-Israeli origin, although it played no role in the actual attack on the bartender or the bar. After the split, an editor of the Mittelbayerische Zeitung took a one-sided position for the landlord several times and denounced the founding group of the association as a "cuckoo". According to this, people from this group rose to the ground "at the zenith of success themselves as founders" of the 2010 initiative. The association KEINE BEDIENUNG VON NAZIS eV protested against what it perceived to be tendentious reporting.
