Regensburg-digital (spelling regensburg-digital) is an independent online newspaper for Regensburg, founded in spring 2008 . Editor Stefan Aigner describes the newspaper as “independent, brave, underfunded” .

content

The online newspaper aims to "strengthen the educational role of public debate in the Regensburg area and thus increase the quality of opinion-forming". She tracks down scandals and limits herself to stories that do not appear in the local daily newspaper. “It works because the daily newspaper is bogus here,” claims Aigner. The only local daily newspaper is the Mittelbayerische Zeitung , whose publisher Peter Esser was chairman of the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry and was elected one of the vice-presidents of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2013. The digital newspaper puts between four and ten articles online each week. Editor Stefan Aigner writes 80 percent of the articles. “In principle, we do print journalism online.” Press releases are not printed without comment. The published texts are researched and written by ourselves. The articles have a comment function below. Comments are activated except in the case of personal insults, racist or right-wing extremist opinions.

Processes

The online newspaper was confronted with several existence-threatening injunctions. The legal disputes with the furniture store XXXLutz and the diocese of Regensburg each ended with a success for Aigner. In the case of the arms company Diehl for the designation " cluster munitions " for " SMArt 155 " there was a comparison: Aigner is no longer allowed to call this type of ammunition "cluster munitions" and also had to pay the costs for the injunction and for his lawyer himself, Diehl took over the remaining procedural costs.

reception

The online newspaper had Alexa rank 17,521 in Germany on November 25, 2013 and global rank 1,520,982 in January 2018. She was the online presence of Ver.di in 2009 as an established alternative in Regensburg and as an exemplary embodiment of critical local journalism '. According to its own information, regensburg-digital is regularly quoted in national media.

financing

40 percent of the proceeds are from advertising. Social payments with flattr are negligible. There are a few individual donations. The rest is provided by the “Association for the Promotion of Diversity of Opinion and Information”. The 150 to 200 members pay contributions between 5 and 30 euros, which is an average of seven euros per month. The sponsoring association takes care of the advertising, the advertising acquisition is a "quarter day job". The website has banner advertising . Due to the committed reporting, there are companies who prefer not to have advertising banners published. For example, Margit Wild , member of the state parliament, places ads .

The employees are usually paid a fee.
