The Kelheim Fibers GmbH is a chemical company based in Kelheim in Lower Bavaria . The company specializes in the manufacture of viscose fibers .

history

Kelheim Fibers goes back to Süddeutsche Spinnfaser AG , which was founded in 1935 and which started producing viscose staple fibers a short time later under the name of Süddeutsche Zellwolle AG .

In the 1960s, it was renamed Süddeutsche Chemiefaser AG again . It also began to expand production and introduced the manufacture of polyacrylonitrile staple fibers . In 1968, Hoechst AG acquired a majority stake in the Kelheim-based company and only a few years later incorporated it into the Hoechst Group as the Kelheim plant .

January 1994 the spin-off from Hoechst AG as fiber factory Kelheim GmbH and foundation of a joint venture Courtaulds European Fibers with the British Courtaulds plc .

In 1998 the Dutch company Akzo Nobel NV took over and renamed the plant Acordis Kelheim GmbH .

In 2004 the plant was bought by the private equity fund "EQUI-Fibers", the viscose fiber division was renamed Kelheim Fibers GmbH and in 2005 the acrylic fiber division was spun off as a subsidiary DOLAN GmbH .

The Austrian Lenzing AG acquired Dolan GmbH on January 1, 2008 , but the planned majority acquisition of Kelheim Fibers GmbH was prohibited in 2012 for anti-trust reasons. Lenzing has also operated the small specialty division European Precursor GmbH as a joint venture on the factory premises since 2008 .

Products and brands

Kelheim Fibers has specialized in the production of viscose fibers . The company is the market leader in the field of hygienic fibers. In 2012 around 90,000 tons of fibers were produced. Kelheim Fibers is the world's leading manufacturer of specialty viscose fibers. The company's well-known brands include Danufil, Galaxy, Viloft and Outlast.
