Keller Quartet (Munich)
The Keller Quartet was a German string quartet from Munich that existed from the late 1940s to the 1970s. All musicians were members of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra .
history
The Keller Quartet was founded by the violinist Erich Keller, then concertmaster of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, founder of the Convivum Musicum, Munich and primary violinist of the Munich Nonett. In later years the second violin was occupied by Karsten Heymann.
The Keller Quartet was one of the first string quartets of its time in Germany and had an extremely diverse repertoire, ranging from classical music to the 20th century. As a top ensemble, it was very concerned with contemporary music, especially after the end of the Third Reich , as shown by appearances - also as members of the Munich Nonet. a. at performances of works by Wilhelm Killmayer (first performance of the 1968 Nonett on January 21, 1969, Hochschule für Musik, Munich), Boris Blacher (Octett, 1965), and concerts at musica viva, Frankfurt, 1967/68. Various tours took it far beyond Germany. The high musical quality and excellent design of the performances by the Keller Quartet are still reflected today in the reviews of its recordings.
