Kelyfos Island, also known as the "turtle" because of its shape

The uninhabited Greek island of Kelyfos , Greek Κέλυφος ( f. Sg. ), Also called Kelfos (Γκέλφος) by the local population , is located in the Toronean Gulf about 5 km southwest of Neos Marmaras . The island is administered by the municipality of Sithonia on the "finger" of the same name on the Chalkidiki peninsula .

The coast is rocky and steep in places, the island is covered with pine and olive trees. A military installation from Roman times is suspected on the northeast side. The island was used seasonally as pastureland and was then also inhabited by shepherds. Because of its shape, it is also known as Chelona (χελώνα, "turtle"). The area around the island is popular with scuba divers .
