Kemp Island is a 1 km long island in the South Atlantic . It is the largest island in the western group of the Clerke Rocks and a popular breeding ground for Antarctic sea birds . In its center rises a 244 m high mountain with double peaks.
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the island in 2009. It is named after Arthur Kemp, first officer on board the HMS Adventure on the second South Seas voyage (1772-1775) of the British navigator James Cook , during which the Clerke Rocks were discovered in 1775.
