Ken Mellons

Ken Mellons (born July 10, 1965 in Kingsport , Tennessee ) is an American country singer.

Beginnings

Ken grew up in Nashville and naturally came into contact with country music at an early age. He started his musical career as a schoolboy. Whenever the opportunity arose, he took part in talent competitions. He later worked his way up the local club scene. A first small success came in 1987, when he could not get a top place in the important "You Can Be A Star" competition, but was personally encouraged to continue by Keith Whitley , who was on the jury.

This was followed by a four-year engagement at the Opryland amusement park. Here he was discovered for the Grand Ole Opry . The producer Jerry Cupit became aware of the young talent in the early nineties and brokered a record deal with the Epic label in 1992.

Career

Jerry Cupit produced Mellon's debut album Ken Mellon that same year . One song from it, the catchy jukebox junkie , stayed in the top of the country charts for weeks and became its flagship. Other singles that were released only achieved average positions in the charts. In 1995 his second album When Forever Begins was released , but it sold poorly and did not produce any hits. A little later he switched to the Curb label. Here, however, no independent album could be produced within six years. In 2001 only one dubious "Best Of" album was released, which contained newly recorded old material. It wasn't until 2004 that he managed to end the contract in order to try a new beginning with the home label.
