Kenneth Essex Edgeworth

Kenneth Essex Edgeworth (born February 26, 1880 in Daramona House, Streete, County Westmeath , Ireland , † October 10, 1972 in Dublin ) was an Irish astronomer who was the first to publish the theory of the now known Kuiper belt .

Edgeworth published his work The evolution of our planetary system in 1943 , which is considered the first reference for a reservoir of comets behind the planetary orbits in the solar system . The concept of the so-called Kuiper belt, which is sometimes also referred to as the Edgeworth-Kuiper belt in Ireland and Great Britain, developed from this .

In 1999 the asteroid (3487) Edgeworth was named after him.
