Kent Northern Railway

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kent Northern Railway was a railway company in the Canadian province of New Brunswick . It was founded in March 1874 and built a branch line that branched off from the Intercolonial Railway in Kent Junction and led over 43 kilometers to the port of Richibucto . The standard gauge line went into operation on November 1, 1883. Kent Northern leased the St. Louis and Richibucto Railway , which had extended the line eight kilometers north to Saint-Louis-de-Kent , from its opening in November 1885. This extension was shut down as early as 1900 and St. Louis & Richibucto was dissolved.

On September 1, 1929, the railway was nationalized and incorporated into the Canadian National Railways as the Richibucto Division . The line was closed on December 3, 1984.
