history

Kepler-62e is an exoplanet orbiting the star Kepler-62 . It was discovered using the transit method through the Kepler Space Telescope . Kepler-62e is likely an Earth-like planet. He is in the habitable zone of his star. It is therefore possible that life exists on the planet.

construction

Given the age of the planet (7 ± 4 billion years), its stellar flux (1.2 ± 0.2 times that of Earth), and its radius (1.61 ± 0.05 times that of Earth), it is possible that the planet has a core of silicate and iron and is covered by a significant amount of water. According to a model study accepted by The Astrophysical Journal , the entire planet is surrounded by a large ocean. It would then be a so-called ocean planet .

Orbit

The planet orbits its central star Kepler-62 in 122 days. It is about 60 percent larger than the earth.

A total of five planets orbiting Kepler-62 have been discovered. Among them is Kepler-62f , which is also in the habitable zone of the star.
