Notches (technology)
As notches is a manufacturing process from the group of pressing in . Here, a is wedge- shaped tool ( notching die ) pressed into the surface of the workpiece so that a notch is formed. The tool moves in a straight line into the workpiece surface, sliding over the surface does not take place. The notch punches must both be very hard in order to be able to penetrate the material and, on the other hand, also have high strength so as not to break. Quenched and tempered cold work steel (tool steel) is often used .
use
Notching has a particular use in materials testing when determining the toughness or brittleness (physical energy absorption capacity) of a material in what is known as a notched impact test .
Otherwise, it becomes the filing hewing used: the cutting of the files are produced by notches.
