The Kesh Corran in the background

The 359 m high Kesh Corran Cairn (also Keshcorran; Irish Céis Chorainn ) is located in the Bricklieve Mountains not far from Keash , Carrowkeel and Ballymote in County Sligo in Ireland .

description

The Cairn (locally called " The Pinnacle ") belongs to a group of large Late Neolithic-Early Bronze Age Cairns in County Sligo. a. the nearby Heapstown and the Cairn on the Knocknarea . The Kesh Corran Cairn is on the top, which is rare. The Keshcorran is over 5 m high and has a diameter of about 30 m. It is located on a platform at the northern end of an oval enclosure measuring 206 × 168 m with a smaller D-shaped enclosure at the southern end that contains a smaller hut foundation. The cairn probably hides a passage tomb and is covered by vegetation. This is in contrast to the Cairns from Carrowkeel, which are in sight .

Two stone boxes, a cairn with a stone box, a possible hut complex, a large double-walled enclosure, a massive “megalithic” wall structure and a wedge tomb nearby indicate a ritual complex.

For the locals of Keash Village, the square is the stage for the annual festival on the last Sunday in July. These “Garland” or “Reek Sunday” events are the continuation of the Celtic Lughnasa celebrations .
