Kessel Island is an uninhabited island in the northern part of the King Sound , an Australian coastal body of water in the Indian Ocean . It belongs to the Kimberley region in the Australian state of Western Australia .
The island is 170 meters long and 90 meters wide. It is about 6.9 kilometers from mainland Australia.
The island is the second westernmost island in a five-kilometer chain of islands. The name of the western neighboring island is Scott Island , the eastern neighboring island is called Pope Island .
