Sir Kevin Barron (born October 26, 1946 in Tadcaster ) is a British politician . He belongs to the Labor Party and represented in the House of Commons since the British general election, in 1983 the constituency Rother Valley of county South Yorkshire .

biography

Barron worked as a miner after graduating from school and was a member of the National Union of Mineworkers . In 1985 he became the parliamentary secretary of the Labor Party leader at the time, Neil Kinnock . In the period thereafter, Barron served as his party's spokesman on energy and climate change (1988-1993), work and pensions (1993-1995) and health (1995-1998).

Barron opposed the UK's exit from the EU , but voted for Theresa May's deal three times against the Labor party line.

Barron supported Owen Smith in his unsuccessful attempt to chair the Labor Party and advocated the protection of non-smokers .

His political interests are indicated by the House of Commons website including energy, environment, home affairs, health, intelligence and security, international development and British film . Bulgaria , Guyana and Tanzania are named as the areas of particular interest for the Barron .

At the end of 2013 he was raised to the nobility by Elizabeth II .
