Particularities: archaeological site

The Khao Thalu Cave ( Thai ถ้ำ เขา ทะลุ ) is an archaeological site in central Thailand and is located in Tambon Ban Kao, Kanchanaburi , Kanchanaburi Province , about 13 km southeast of Ban Kao.

Location and description

The Khao Thalu Cave was extensively explored in 1977 by Surin Pookajorn together with a group of specialists from Silpakorn University ( Bangkok ). Four consecutive layers of artefacts from the Hoabinhian hunter-gatherer economy were found, along with rubble implements . Bones of wild boars , deer and cattle were also found, as well as crabs , turtles and mussels from the nearby river. The finds date from 8000 to 1000 BC. Chr.

Particularly interesting objects have emerged from the top layer: in addition to the Hoabinhian rubble tools, incised and black-burned pottery shards were found dating from between 2500 and 1000 BC. Come from BC. There are traces of rice farmers in this area from the same period and it is very likely that both groups exchanged goods.
