Khoo Boon Hui

Khoo Boon Hui (* 1954 in Singapore ) is a Singaporean politician . Between 2008 and 2012 he was President of the international police organization Interpol .

biography

Khoo began his career in 1977 with the police in Singapore ( Singapore Police Force ), rising over time as Chief of Police Staff, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department ( CID ) and Deputy Police Commissioner ( Deputy Commissioner of Police ) on.

In addition, he studied engineering and economics at the University of Oxford , graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Engineering Science and Economics). A postgraduate course in the subject Public Administration at the Harvard Kennedy School , he finished with a Master of Arts (MA Public Administration).

In 1997 he finally became President ( Commissioner ) of the SPF. In this role he promoted the fight against crime, which made Singapore one of the safest countries in the world with a very low crime rate . During this time he completed a management course at the Wharton School in 2002 .

In addition to this activity, he was elected one of the three vice-presidents of the Interpol Executive Committee in 2006 and was responsible for Asia as such . During his two-year tenure, he worked actively to strengthen the relationship between Interpol and the police force in Southeast Asia . These efforts culminated in the signing of the declaration of cooperation between ASEANAPOL and Interpol in June 2007. In October 2008, he was elected Interpol's successor to Jackie Selebi for a four-year term until 2012.

On February 1, 2010, he was appointed Senior Deputy Secretary of the Singapore Ministry of Home Affairs , serving in the extended cabinet of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong . His successor as commissioner of the SPF was then Ng Joo Hee.
