KiBa (drink)

As KiBa (for cherry-banana juice ), also Baki (for banana and cherry juice ), an offered in Germany is non-alcoholic mixed drink made of banana and cherry nectar called. Usually a mixing ratio between 1: 1 and 1: 2 is used as a basis, with a smaller proportion of the tasty, but also more expensive cherry nectar being used in gastronomy.

Contrary to what the name suggests, it is not about fruit juice . This is because the ingredients are not offered as juices with the legally prescribed 100% fruit content , but only as fruit nectars . Commercially available, ready-mixed cherry-banana drinks are sometimes fruit juice drinks with a lower fruit content and added sugar .

Characteristic of the cherry-banana juice is the marbled, layered presentation form of the mixed drink, which is why the drink is also known as marble juice . This is chosen on the one hand for visual reasons, on the other hand to create the possibility when drinking that a variable proportion of the ingredients is contained in each sip. Most of the time, cherry-banana juice is served with a drinking straw in gastronomy . Sometimes cherry and banana juice is served with ice; Purists dislike this as the melting ice will dilute the drink.

To prepare, you first put the chilled cherry nectar in a drinking glass . Then you carefully pour in the chilled banana nectar to avoid mixing - the banana nectar sinks to the bottom of the glass due to its higher density. A different order of ingredients is also possible, with the cherry nectar partially mixing with the banana nectar due to the turbulence that occurs, thus creating the marbling described above. Sometimes the cherry nectar is deliberately poured on the edge of the glass, on the drinking straw or using a spoon in order to minimize the turbulence during pouring and thus not endanger the marbling.

Because of the color contrast of its ingredients, the KiBa is also used in school lessons to illustrate the mixing of two substances through diffusion and the different specific gravity of liquids.
