The Kieser Training AG is an international Swiss Franchise -Unternehmen headquartered in Zurich. Founded in 1967 by the Swiss Werner Kieser , Kieser Training AG is a non-listed stock corporation under Swiss law . The chain for strength training has more than 150 fitness studios , some of which are operated as branches and some as franchise studios. In 2017 Werner Kieser and his wife Gabriela Kieser sold the company to long-time managing director Michael Antonopoulos and the board of directors Nils Planzer.

Training concept

Kieser Training studios exist in Switzerland , Germany , Austria , Luxembourg and Australia .

The company offers health-oriented strength training on specially developed sports equipment with the aim of promoting muscle and strength development . No music is played in the studios, there is neither a bar nor a sauna, and endurance training is deliberately avoided. This functional and minimalist approach is reflected in the training method as well as in the architecture and equipment stylistically influenced by the Bauhaus .

The high intensity method is used for training . One set is performed per device, in which the muscle is locally exhausted within 90 to 120 seconds. This is followed by a regeneration phase of at least 48 hours. According to Kieser Training, 30 minutes twice a week is enough to build muscle and strength with this method.

At Kieser Training, training is controlled by specialized instructors and medical staff. In a consultation, an instructor determines the training goals and creates a personal training plan on this basis. The first three training units are accompanied personally. The instructor explains training principles and introduces the customer to the correct execution of the exercise. Medical training advice should ensure that the training is also tailored to the physical constitution from a medical point of view and thus ensures a high level of training quality and safety. The 10th training and every 20th training can again be accompanied by an instructor to monitor success. In the introductory phase, the isometric maximum strength of the most important muscle groups is determined using strength measurements.

Since back pain is associated with weak back extensors in 8 out of 10 cases, the strength of the deep autochthonous back extensors and the mobility of the spine are determined as part of a back analysis on computer-assisted back training devices. The training equipment then helps with the targeted development of the back extension. The training is medically controlled and accompanied one to one.

Exercise equipment

In 1998 Werner Kieser acquired the European rights for the production of the so-called MedX machines from Arthur Jones, the founder of Nautilus and MedX in the USA . In the course of time, the company developed its own training equipment, which was manufactured in Dieburg under the name Delphex from 2003 for personal use. Today Kieser Training develops and produces all devices in-house. The production facility has been located in Breuberg in the Odenwald since 2012 .

The devices offer:

  • an isolated load on the target muscles
  • a targeted strengthening of all muscle groups
  • easy handling
  • a variable resistor through eccentric technology
  • individual setting options for anatomically correct training
  • finely adjustable training weights
  • guided movements for successful, safe training
  • tested technology

Training and research

In order to offer consistent quality in all studios, all procedures and processes are defined in internal standards. Their contents are conveyed to executives, doctors, instructors and medical specialists in various function-related courses. Kieser Training founded its own internal training and documentation center in 1987 for systematic, function-related training and further education of employees. In the DSSV -certified courses, all doctors, instructors and medical specialists are prepared for their tasks.

In addition, Kieser Training relies on external, certified and state-recognized training by training partners. For example, basic training for employees is provided by the BSA Academy for Prevention, Fitness and Health. And at the German University for Prevention and Health Management (DHfPG), employees can complete a dual bachelor's or master's degree. The Kieser Training Studios also offer the opportunity to complete training as a sports and fitness clerk. In addition, Kieser Training offers employees the chance to qualify for a management position in a two-year program.

Kieser Training regularly checks the quality in the studios in inspections. Kieser Training is certified in Germany by TÜV Rheinland, in Austria by TÜV Austria and in Switzerland by QualiCert. In Germany, the Kieser Studios have been awarded test winners by Stiftung Warentest (test 9/17).

In 2002 Kieser Training founded its own research department in order to methodically research new findings, to document them and to publish them in publications and scientific papers or to teach employees and trainees and to develop their own devices. To this end, scientists, engineers and designers rely on interdisciplinary collaboration and cooperation with external scientists, universities and other organizations. Our own research should serve the goal of minimizing muscle wasting through efficient strength training and promoting the development of muscle mass.
