Mount Kigali is located on the western outskirts of Kigali , the capital of Rwanda . The Nyarugenge district extends directly on the eastern slopes of the mountain . The mountain gave its name to the city, which was founded in 1907 between the Nyabarongo river valley and the Jali and Kigali mountains .
