Killymoon Castle

Killymoon Castle ( Irish Caisleán Choillidh Mhuain ) is a castle in the townland of Killymoon Demesne ( Coillidh Mhuain ) about 1.6 km southwest of Cookstown in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland . It is on the north bank of the Ballinderry River . An 18-hole golf course was laid out in the castle park, where British tournaments were held.

history

The first Killymoon Castle, built in 1671, burned down in 1801. Two years later it was rebuilt larger and more beautiful than before according to plans by John Nash . It is an asymmetrical building with round and rectangular towers. The interior is in the neo-Gothic style .
