The Kilwachronik (Arabic: Kitab al-Sulaw ) is a chronicle of the East African city of Kilwa Kisiwani written around 1520 . It is a list of kings. The chronicle has been preserved in two versions. The Portuguese historian João de Barros (1496–1570) included them in his Décadas da Ásia , published in 1552 . A second, longer version comes from a copy found in the possession of the Sultan of Zanzibar in the 19th century . Both versions differ in important points, so that the reconstruction of Kilwa's history is in places quite uncertain.
