Kim Deitch (* 1944 ) is an American cartoonist .

Life

Deitch is the son of illustrator and animator Gene Deitch and occasionally works with his brothers Simon and Seth Deitch . His most famous character is a mysterious cat named Waldo , who appears as a well-known cartoon character from the 1930s, but also as the demonic reincarnation of Judas Iscariot . He was a major figure in the underground comix movement of the sixties, regularly contributing to The East Village Other with humorous, psychedelic comics (which included characters such as "Sunshine Girl" and "The India Rubber Man") . In 1969 he became editor of Gothic Blimp Works . Kim Deitch also worked as Fowlton Means . In 2008 the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art held a retrospective of his work. In 2003 Deitch won an Eisner Award for The Stuff of Dreams (Fantagraphics), in 2008 an Inkpot Award .
