Kimiko Kurihara ( Japanese 栗 原 君子 , Kurihara Kimiko ; born January 13, 1946 in Hiroshima Prefecture ) is a Japanese politician, former member of the Sangiin , the upper house, and since 2005 chairwoman of the New Socialist Party ( Shin-Shakaitō ).

Kurihara was elected to Goken, Hiroshima no Kai ( 護憲 ・ ヒ ロ シ マ の 会 , “Assembly Protection of the Constitution, Hiroshima ”) in her home prefecture of Hiroshima (two seats) in her home prefecture of Hiroshima in the 1992 Sangiin election and subsequently joined the Socialist Party of Japan ( SPJ). At the beginning of 1996 she did not take part in the founding of Tomiichi Murayama's Social Democratic Party , but instead followed Osamu Yatabe into the New Socialist Party, in which supporters of the traditional (opposition) line of the SPJ rallied: opponents of the self-defense forces and the security treaty , the Introduction of individual constituencies and nuclear power. In 1998 she received less than ten percent of the vote in Hiroshima and thus lost her mandate. A renewed candidacy in 2001 failed: Kurihara achieved the fourth-highest percentage of votes in a smaller field of candidates, but with over 300,000 votes behind in second place.

In May 2005 Kurihara took over the party leadership from Tatsukuni Komori . In the Sangiin election in 2007 she ran again, this time on the proportional representation list of the 9-jō net ("Network Article 9 "), which received less than half a percent of the proportional representation votes nationwide. Kurihara received 17,884 preferential votes. The 9-jō net was set up for the 2007 elections with the participation of the New Socialist Party and the “Green Table” ( Midori no Tēburu ; now part of the “Green Future” ).
