The pediatrician is the monthly magazine of the professional association of paediatricians , which also acts as publisher. The issue for December and January appears as a double issue. The magazine was founded in 1970 by Theodor Hellbrügge , who acted as editor from the first edition until 1992 . The original title was Der Kinderarzt - Zeitschrift für Kinderheilkunde und Jugendmedizin ( Der Pediatrician ).
Topics and circulation development
The pediatrician sees itself as a specialist journal for paediatrics as well as doctors who work in pediatric medicine and its specialties. Current findings from research and clinical practice as well as new developments relevant to professional policy are published in the publication. In this way, the journal is intended to serve further and advanced training as well as communication and the exchange of experiences between practice and clinic as well as interdisciplinary cooperation with adjacent specialist societies and the public health service.

The Hansische Verlagkontor, founded in 1948, has been publishing the magazine Der Kinder- und Jugendarzt since the first edition and describes the title as "very important" for the publisher. Other publishing products in the pediatrics segment include various book series and individual titles such as “Advances in Social Pediatrics”, “Forum of Paediatrics” or “Topics of Child Nursing”. There are also audiovisual media, blackboards on the development of children, “Focus Mul”, the journal for science, research and teaching at the University of Lübeck, and special Lübeck titles such as the yearbook “Der Wagen”.
