Child and Youth Health Service (KJGD) is a department or subject area of ​​the (municipal) lower health authorities or the health department in the area of public health service . Since health (as well as education) is federally regulated in Germany, the tasks of the KJGD are based on a number of country-specific statutory provisions ( school laws , health service laws , etc.) and result from the operational definition of social pediatrics .

Working method

The KJGD examines and advises subsidiary, (social) compensatory and non-therapeutic, mostly in teams on site e.g. B. in community facilities for children (kindergarten, school). Here he also understands his role as the facility's company doctor. The teams consist ideally of a pediatrician / pediatrician ( school doctor / school doctor) and a / m socio-medical assistant / s or medical staff .

Area of ​​responsibility

The main task is school health care . In times when social classes are increasingly drifting apart, (relative) poverty is no exception and health care or standard medical care is no longer adequately guaranteed or not adequately taken care of for many, it is important to secure essential community-oriented socio-pediatric tasks.
