Since October 18, 2004 , the Berlin district of Lichtenberg has had a functioning, democratically elected children and youth parliament ( KJP for short ).

As a direct sub-organ of the district assembly (district parliament), it actively advocates the interests of the district's children and young people. The work of the KJP is organized in committees on various topics, in which any interested Lichtenberger under 27 can participate as a member. The KJP is supported by the district office , the mayor and Zwix, the regional youth participation service in the district.
