Children's and youth theater Metzenthin
The Metzenthin Children's and Youth Theater in Zurich is the largest Swiss theater and movement school for children and young people aged three to 20 years.
Today around 600 pupils attend the theater school. Every winter there is a big fairy tale performance with around 160 children and young people.
history
In 1951 Rosmarie Metzenthin founded the theater school in Zurich. In the same year she organized a fairytale performance with 25 children in Zurich and Baden .
In 1952 a nativity play was performed for the first time in front of the Grossmünster in Zurich . Metzenthin wrote the text, her husband Hans Andreae accompanied on the organ . On the occasion of the first Züri Fäscht in 1953, Metzenthin founded the Ullalla Bassissi children 's circus , which from now on gave its performances almost every September. In 1957 a theater performance with young people took place for the first time.
For her artistic and educational work, Metzenthin was awarded the City of Zurich Culture Prize in 1976.
In 1978 the music-pedagogical seminar was opened, which offers vocational training lasting two to three years. So far, around a hundred students have completed this training. In 1990 the children's and youth theater Metzenthin AG was founded; this includes the music-pedagogical seminar as well as the area of children and youth theater. In 1997, the City of Zurich awarded Metzenthin the Hans Georg Nägeli Medal for its services to musical creation . In 1999 the founder resigned and the school was taken over by her two nieces Sibyll Metzenthin and Corinne Roos.

- The children's and youth theater Metzenthin also repeatedly arranges children for larger projects (for example for sketches in the TV show Benissimo or in 2003 for a major performance of the play Jedermann ).
- In 2004 a small group of young people from the Metzenthintheater formed the theater sports group Die METZger .
