Rosmarie Metzenthin

Rosmarie Metzenthin (born July 8, 1927 in Lindau , Germany ; † May 22, 2014 in Zurich ) was a Swiss theater teacher . She was known in Zurich for over 50 years as the founder and director of the children's and youth theater in Metzenthin .

biography

Rosmarie Metzenthin was born as the daughter of a former Brandenburg Junkers family. Her son is the psychiatrist Andreas Andreae.

After studying rhythm at the Zurich Conservatory and further training as a theater pedagogue in Munich and Salzburg , she began as a pioneer in 1951 with the first children's theater in Switzerland . Many of their performances have been recorded for film and television. Guest performances have taken her children's theater to various European countries and the USA . In 1978 she realized her idea of uniting music , movement and theater in a holistic education and founded the music-pedagogical seminar. Her students included as adolescents a. a. the actor Peter Bollag, the musician, actress and filmmaker Mona Fueter and the author Charles Lewinsky .

In 1999 she handed over the management of the theater to her two nieces, and in 2001 she withdrew completely from the active activities of her theater and training facility.

Awards

In recognition of her life's work and the enrichment of Zurich's cultural life, she received the canton's literary prize in 1976 and the City of Zurich's Hans Georg Nägeli Medal in 1997.
