The Lucerne Cantonal Hospital (LUKS) is the central hospital in Central Switzerland with a comprehensive range of diagnosis and therapy. Since January 1, 2008, the public cantonal hospitals ( Kantonsspital Luzern KSL , Kantonales Spital Sursee / Wolhusen KSSW and Lucerne Höhenklinik Montana LHM ) have been run under the same roof as the Lucerne Cantonal Hospital . This makes the LUKS the largest non-university hospital in Switzerland and unites over 100 clinics, departments and centers.

The Lucerne Cantonal Hospital, which is run in the form of a public institution , has over 7,000 employees. This makes LUKS one of the largest employers in Central Switzerland .

As a central hospital with a service mandate that is laid down in the cantonal hospital law, the range of services includes basic care for the population of the canton of Lucerne .

The hospital organization

The Lucerne Government Council proposes to convert the LUKS and Lucerne Psychiatry (lups) into public limited companies . This with the aim of strengthening the health network and ensuring supply. The new legal form enables the LUKS to organize itself more easily and clearly.

Since 2012 the project LUNIS (is under LU zerner- Ni dwaldner- S pitalregion) the Kantonsspital Nidwalden Lucerne Cantonal Hospital affiliated organization. On January 1, 2021, the Lucerne Cantonal Hospital will take over the Nidwalden Cantonal Hospital as a subsidiary.

The Lucerne Cantonal Hospital is currently digitizing all core processes in order to achieve EMRAM level 7 in the maturity model . To this end, a new hospital information system will be introduced for CHF 65.8 million, which was introduced in autumn 2019.

Construction activities

Various construction projects are in progress at the Lucerne location.

On October 16, 2018, an additional parking garage for employees with 600 additional parking spaces opened.

The children's hospital, built in 1971, is noticeably getting on in years and there is a lack of space despite temporary arrangements and renovations. That is why the Lucerne Cantonal Hospital is planning a new building, for which it has evaluated a new location on the hospital area in Lucerne by means of a test plan for the East area. The new building is to be built in 2025 east of today's children's hospital. The women's clinic is to be located on the same construction area.

Construction activities

In the long term, today's building will no longer meet the standards of modern hospital operations and it is nearing the end of its life cycle. Two possible locations for a new building are currently being clarified. In autumn 2019 at the latest, the hospital council will make a definitive location decision with the government council .

The Lucerne Altitude Clinic Montana in the canton of Valais specializes in the cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, psychosomatic and sleep medicine fields.

The Lucerne Altitude Clinic Montana receives the service contract from the Canton of Lucerne . It is also listed on the hospital lists of the cantons of Nidwalden and Wallis for all benefit recipients. It is on the list for pulmonary rehabilitation for the canton of Uri .

The Lucerne High Altitude Clinic Montana was opened on May 31, 1952 and extensively renovated in autumn 1997.
