The Kantonsspital Nidwalden (KSNW) in Stans is the acute hospital for the canton of Nidwalden . It is an institution under public law and ensures the extended basic medical care of Nidwalden and Engelberg .

Departments

The hospital is divided into clinics and competence centers. The clinics include the departments for medicine , surgery , orthopedics, as well as gynecology and obstetrics . The competence centers include anesthesia and pain therapy , nutrition and diabetes counseling , the laboratory, the emergency department , the physiotherapy department , radiology , the ambulance service , the day clinic , the social service and clinical pastoral care. Urological and ORL patients are treated by attending physicians. A practice for cardiology is located in the hospital building. The house has a CT and since April 2011 also an MRI .

The number of beds is 90. The 424 employees care for around 14,660 patients annually, of which 4,074 are inpatients (as of December 31, 2010, figures without newborns). The Cantonal Hospital Nidwalden ranks 55th among the 100 largest employers in Central Switzerland.

history

The first canton hospital in Stans used to be in Nägeligasse and was built in 1866. The building now houses a senior citizens' residence. The hospital was built at its current location in 1964 and renovated and expanded in 1995/96.

Future development

On September 22nd, 2009, the Nidwalden and Lucerne governments signed a declaration of intent for a joint hospital landscape. The LUNIS called Project ( LU zerner- N idwaldner- S pitalregion) provides that in 2010 the concept for joint cooperation developed and by 2012 the management of the KSNW by the Lucerne Cantonal Hospital is checked. A cooperation with the Cantonal Hospital Obwalden has existed for a long time.
