Young Castle Children's Museum

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Young Castle Children's Museum is the first children's museum in the Stuttgart region with an exhibition area of almost 700 m² and introduces children from four years of age and their families to the cultural history of Württemberg in a playful way with changing hands-on exhibitions. It opened its doors in October 2010 in the Old Castle as part of the Württemberg State Museum . In addition to the exhibition area, the Junge Schloss has a spacious reception area with space to have a snack, run around and relax, as well as several workshop rooms and a theater room. The young castle children's museum also includes the two mascots, Hugo, the castle ghost, and Trixi, the castle owl. They are present in the interactive exhibition as well as on posters and flyers and as walking acts at events.

Cultural mediation

The preservation and passing on of culture and the lively discussion of cultural history is the basic idea of the children's museum. This is done through a mediation that takes children seriously as visitors, links them to their worlds and encourages active participation. Different communication approaches address the individual senses of the young visitors and allow them to be understood in the literal sense. Some of the original objects in the Junge Schloss can also be touched. The children's museum is designed so that children can make their own references to regional history and reflect on it. In addition, pedagogically trained staff is available in the exhibition rooms to answer questions if necessary or provide assistance at individual stations.

All interactive exhibitions are complemented by an extensive accompanying program. This includes family tours, open workshops, reading campaigns, theater performances and much more. Groups such as kindergartens, daycare centers or school classes can also book guided tours and workshops. Children's birthdays can also be celebrated in the Junge Schloss.

Child council

A special conceptual feature of the Junge Schloss is its child council. This body met for the first time ten months before the opening of the opening exhibition in December 2009. The 12 to 20 girls and boys have so far supported all interactive exhibitions with their ideas, comments and requests. The advisory board meets six to eight times a year.

Individual members of the children's council have already guided through the exhibitions of the children's museum themselves. In September 2014, two of the young museum experts on the Children's Advisory Board were guests on the SWR television program “Tigerentenclub” and presented the content of the exhibition “Roman Construction Site! A city emerges ”. Since December 2015, the members have been meeting to prepare for the interactive exhibition “7 Super Swabians. Heroes and Inventors in the Junge Schloss ”.

Children's club "The Castle Ghosts"

Since October 2011 there has been a children's club “Die Schlossgespenster” affiliated with the Junge Schloss children's museum. The kids club is aimed at children between the ages of six and ten. Membership lasts one year after registration and can be extended several times. Castle ghosts receive free entry to the Württemberg State Museum, the Young Castle and special exhibitions. There are also four events per year especially for club members: usually workshops, guided tours or excursions.
