The Kinderumwelt gGmbH is an institution of the German Academy for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine (DAKJ, umbrella association of German pediatric societies). It emerged from the pediatric advice centers for environmental medicine (DISU) and allergy issues (DISA) in childhood, which Karl Ernst von Mühlendahl had set up in Osnabrück in 1991 on behalf of the DAKJ. The Kinderumwelt gGmbH is based in Georgsmarienhütte near Osnabrück .

The Kinderumwelt sees itself as a mediator between research and those seeking advice and advises paediatricians, the public health service and the interested public on environmental medicine and allergological issues. It claims to provide neutral and objective information about the effects of the environment on children's health.

Projects and publications

In addition to the publication of specialist environmental medicine articles, Kinderumwelt operates the public Internet portal Allum as well as online specialist networks (intranets) for professional groups in the healthcare sector.

The information portal Allum (Allergy, Environment and Health) offers parents, those affected and experts information on environmental substances and diseases such as allergies , asthma , neurodermatitis and their triggers.

The online specialist networks of the children's environment are grouped under the common umbrella system UMINFO - ALLINFO. These include PädInform (Germany-wide intranet for paediatricians), ÖGD portal (intranet for health authorities at state and federal level) and Praxisfieber (online platform for medical assistants).
