Kingcrow is an Italian progressive rock and metal band from Rome , founded in 1996 under the name Earth Shaker .
history
The band was founded in 1996 by guitarist Diego Cafolla and drummer Manuel Thundra Cafolla under the name Earth Shaker. Inspired by a poem by Edgar Allan Poe , the band soon renamed themselves Kingcrow. Together with singer Stefano Tissi, they released the demo Eyes of Memories in 1997 . The second demo, Hurricane's Eye , was released in 2000. In 2001 the band released the debut album Something Unknown . In the same year Ivan Nastasi also joined the band as a guitarist. In 2002 singer Tissi was replaced by Mauro Gelsomini. In June 2003 the band recorded another demo called Matzmariels , which was followed by the album Insider the following year .
In 2004 and 2005 the band set up their own recording studio in Rome. The band recorded the album Timetropia and released it in 2006 through Lucretia Records worldwide. In 2007 and 2008 various live performances followed together with the new bass player Angelo Orlando. The band played among other things on the Gods of Metal together with Iron Maiden and Judas Priest .
In February 2009, while recording the new album Phlegethon , bassist Francesco D'Errico joined the band. In addition, singer Gelsomini left the band and was replaced by Diego Marchesi.
In 2010 the band released the album on Scarlet Records .
style
The band plays classic progressive metal, although the pieces are very varied. The music is reminiscent of the works of the band Tool .
