Kings Cross ( KX for short ) is a neighborhood on the eastern edge of downtown Sydney ( Australia ). The local S-Bahn station bears the same name. Kings Cross is known as the Red Light District of Sydney. The central Darlinghurst Road is full of striptease shops, as well as pubs and smaller clubs. Occasional prostitutes are looking for customers on the sidewalks . However, contrary to popular belief among the people of Sydney, Kings Cross is not a dangerous place. Countless tourists and party goers populate the district until late at night. The large local police station also ensures a safe atmosphere. There are a few brothels in the darker back streets of Darlinghurst Road . In 1970 the first game of the 1971 World Snooker Championship was played at the Kings Cross RSL Club .
