The station was opened on December 10, 1932 by the Metropolitan Railway (predecessor of the Metropolitan Line ) and formed part of the new branch line to Stanmore, electrified from the start . After the integration of the Metropolitan Railway into the London Underground network in the following year, it was decided to transfer operations in the direction of Stanmore to the Bakerloo Line , which happened on November 20, 1939. The Bakerloo Line in turn was replaced on May 1, 1979 by the newly opened Jubilee Line.
