The Kingsoft GmbH was founded in 1982 by Fritz Schaefer and was in the 1980s one of the most famous German games software companies. Kingsoft was one of the few manufacturers who, in addition to many game titles for VC 20 , C64 and Amiga, also released many programs for the Commodore 264 series ( C16 , C116 , Plus / 4 ).

Company history

The company headquarters was in Aachen . Kingsoft was both a producer and a distributor. Several games were ported from one system to another by freelance programmers on behalf of Kingsoft (for example from the Amiga to the C64). A well-known application program that Kingsoft sold was Turbo Tape for the C16, C116, Plus / 4 and C64. In addition to computer games, Kingsoft also sold its own books such as The Big Plus / 4 Book (1986).

Kingsoft was acquired by Electronic Arts in March 1995 and incorporated into their German operations, Electronic Arts GmbH, later that year.
