WPS Office (formerly Kingsoft Office or KSOffice ) is an office package for Apple iOS , Windows , MacOS , Android and Linux . The usability of the office package is closely based on Microsoft Office and offers a range of functions and file formats from the current Microsoft Office packages. It is developed and distributed by the Zhuhai- based Chinese Kingsoft Corporation . It is distributed under a proprietary license.
Versions
WPS Office is available for Windows in a free, a subscription and a pro version. The program is available in a free "Personal Edition" that is not limited in time. This does not support VBA - macros , but is otherwise not functionally limited. Versions prior to 2016 watermarked printed documents after the trial period. This restriction was removed with version 2016.
A chargeable upgrade to the more complete "Business Edition" is possible at any time within the program interface. With the renaming to WPS-Office , a subscription version for the business version was introduced in the license model. The “Business Edition” of the Office version can be licensed on an annual basis. Alternatively, a permanent license can be obtained.
The Linux, Apple iOS and Android versions are free and also available in German under the name WPS Office .
Functions
The product has its own PDF converter, uses MDI mode to display several open documents and advertises high compatibility with the Microsoft Office suite, lower costs and a small file size for the installation package. On the other hand, the internationally standardized OpenDocument standard (file extensions: * .odt, * .ods etc.) is not supported as a file format. The graphical user interface of WPS Office 10 offers the option of switching between control via menus and toolbars - similar to Microsoft Office 2003 - and operation with ribbons - similar to Microsoft Office from version 2007 - with a black and a light blue Ribbon theme is available.

- WPS Office Writer: a word processor with advanced layout features
- WPS Office Spreadsheet: an Excel compatible spreadsheet
- WPS Office Presentation: a presentation program
history
The Office suite was published in 1988 as WPS Office under DOS and was still known under this name in China. The trade name Kingsoft Office was used primarily for the western and Japanese markets. The first version was Kingsoft Office 1995 . There is also a community-maintained version of Linux.
