The Kirchbergbrücke is a pedestrian bridge over the Rathenower Stadtkanal, an arm of the Havel in the Brandenburg town of Rathenow .

history

Up to 1288 it was possible to reach the two hills, the Kirchberg and the Weinberg in the medieval town through a small valley . This depression was breached and flooded for the purpose of continuous protection of the city towards the Havel. In the same year the fossatum ipsius civitatis , the moat, is described for the first time . A boiler lock, built between 1548 and 1559, ensured a continuous passage through the ship. The Rathenow city lock is still in its place today . This Havelarm is now called the Rathenower Stadtkanal.

The Kirchberg Bridge, completed in 2002, leads over the former city harbor, the original city moat, now the lock canal, to the Kirchberg with the remains of the old city center. The steel girder bridge, built as a pedestrian and cycle path bridge, connects the Kirchberg with the vineyard again after more than 700 years. Your railings consist of a light tubular steel construction with horizontally stretched steel cables. The abutments are solid with the brick masonry characteristic of the site.

The total length of the barrier-free bridge is 72.50 meters, the walkway width is 2.50 meters, and the total width is 3.00 meters. The length of the superstructure is given as 65.00 meters. The construction costs were around 420,000 euros.
